How to Flash LG Android Devices Using LGUP

  1. Download the (official) LG stock ROM specific for your LG Android device. You can download official LG stock firmware for your device from the link already provided above. Be sure the firmware you download is for your device model (variant) and region.
  2. Extract the downloaded firmware (if packed in .zip or .rar file) onto your PC. After extraction, you should hava a .tot or .kdz firmware file extention.
  3. On your LG Android device, enable USB Debugging and OEM unlock. This is essential because it enables LGUP communicate with the device during flashing.
  4. Download and install LG Android device drivers on your PC. You can download LG Android device drivers from here.
  5. Connect your LG phone to the PC using its compatible USB Cable. Once connected and if that is the first time you're connecting the phone to the PC while USB Debugging is turned on, a box/popup similar to the one below should pop up. Simply mark/tick/click Always allow from this computer and then, click ok

  8. Select either REFURBISH or UPGRADE depending on your choice. Meanings of all the options listed on the LGUP Tool and what they do are explained further after this step by step tutorial below

  10. Select File Path and browse to the folder where the .KDZ firmware file (for your LG phone) is saved on the PC and select it

  12. Now, click the Start button. Almost immediately, the flashing process will begin and you will be able to follow the progress in the progress bar of the LGUP Tool

  14. Once the progress bar reaches 100% and the flashing is complete, the phone will automatically reboot. First boot-up after a fresh flashing usually takes longer (5 to 25 minutes). Hold-on until the phone is fully booted on/to Android and enjoy afterwards.

  • Make sure your phone's battery is at the least 80% charged before you begin the process
  • Make sure you have a consistent or reliable power supply (for your PC) throughout the process
  • You must not disconnect the phone from the PC amid/during the flashing process

Meanings and Functions In the LGUP Tool Options

  1. REFURBISH: this loads the firmware onto your LG device but will make you loose data regardless of whether you use KDZ or TOT firmware
  2. UPGRADE: this loads the firmware on your phone. Mostly helps flash/upgrade and keep your phone data
  3. ChipErase: CAUTION, this option will erase IMEI/efs partition of your LG Phone. Do not try this if you do not have your LG Phone NV Backup ready
  4. PARTITION DL: this option is used to flash single partition (selected) to your LG phone
  5. DUMP: this option is used to dump all partitions of your LG phone as backup file
  6. FOTA UPGRADE: this option can be used to flash OTA updates that come with dot up file extention
